The straight tool has a body placed in the centre line of the handle making for high cutting power. The blade does not bend during carving. Widths greater than 20 mm are intended for the preparation of the work, while those less than 16 mm are for finishing.

Its cutting edge is straight with a double bevel.

The Tormek® Japanese Waterstone has a grit size of 4,000 and provides an excellent surface finish on hand tools requiring little sharpening. It is ideal for sharpening carving tools. The new Tormek® diamond wheels come in three different finishes: coarse, fine and extra fine. This stone provides an extra fine surface finish on hand tools where a minimum of steel removal is needed. Ideal for carving tools. 4000 grit. Since it is made to create the finest surface, it has a limited steel removal capacity and cannot be used for shaping a tool.
